  Farm facts

Total acerage aprox: 250 acers of which 63 acers crops, the rest pasture and grazing, with a large part wild, protected, river land, as well as 125 acers productive forest. All our cattle have access to a straw bed as well as being able to go outside in the winter. Animal ethics are very important to us. Today the farm is run by Einar Lysell och partner Miranda Harding. Einar is the 4th gerneration to work the farm at Bårarp, which he took over in 1974.

At Bårarp there has been a dairy herd together with the successful breeding of PedigreeHolstein cattle. The most successful was 470 Eva, National Champion Holstein in 1999 at Elmia.  Eva was exported to Finland in 2002. Evas family came to Bårarp in 1949 and was the first black-and-white milking cow at Bårarp. 470 Eva is the result of a lengthy, purposeful, breeding program.

                                                      470 Eva

Bårarps wellknown herd of a 130 pedigree Holstein cattel was sold during 2002. A hard decision, caused by many different reasons. The cattle were sold over all of Sweden as well as 21 being exported to Finland.

To-day.

In place of the Holsteins would be a beef cattle herd. The chioce of breed was Hereford. The ground stones to this new breeding program are Lörsta and Gringelstads herds of pedigree Hereford which we bought in whole. There are even cattel from Tahe Gård Hereford and Backen Hereford here.

Philosophy

Our goal is a herd with functional cattel with good conformation, good temperment and growth. In the future, a polled herd, without loseing breeding progress.
