New Hampshire

Our hens
We have only had pure bred New Hampshires for a couple of years but have already done well at a couple of shows. We are only planning on hatching just a few eggs each year for fun, but we aim to breed the best quality birds!

About the breed
Rhode Island Red is one of the founders of the New Hampshire breed, which comes from the USA. It has been used in Sweden for meat chicken production before the Broilers came. It is a combination breed for meat and eggs, as they are good layers. How many eggs people say they lay depends on which webiste you look at! But most seam to say between 200-300 per year. The eggs are brown and weigh 55-60gr.
New Hampshires are quiet and friendly. They are not good flyers and won't hatch eggs. This makes them suitable for people who don't like a lot of flapping or nasty hens that won't let you take their eggs! There is a dwarf breed of New Hampshires to.
